What is Camp WeeKanEatit!! 2009?

A gluten free camp for kids and families with celiac disease had its first ever session on Friday May 9 to Sunday May 11, 2008 at Camp Twin Lakes in Rutledge, Georgia and now we are getting ready for 2009.  www.camptwinlakes.org

Who can attend?

Any family with a family member with celiac disease.  Children may not attend without a parent; the whole family is encouraged to come.

Why have a Celiac Camp?

We want everyone with celiac to experience a summer camp atmosphere without having to worry about the food.  We want kids, parents, and siblings to meet each other and we want to learn from and support each other.

How much will it cost?

We are hoping to raise enough money to lower costs.  In 2008 camp cost about $350 per family with scholarships available.

Can I raise money or donate?

Of course!  Send an email to celiacgroup@ccdhc.org for details.  Send checks made out to Camp Twin Lakes (tax deductible!!) to Children's Center for Digestive Health Care, 993-D Johnson Ferry Road, #440, Atlanta, GA 30342.  You will receive a receipt and THANKS!

What activities will there be at Camp Celiac?

We had a lot of fun in 2008!! Among the activities were a ropes course and rock climbing, canoeing, fishing, arts and crafts, campfire cook out, sports, swimming, and a special Mother's Day celebration Sunday morning.  We also had time for talking -  question and answer session with a doctor and hanging out sharing our stories with other celiac families.

What should I bring?

Bring sheets, pillows and blankets (for single beds) and your own towels.  Bring your toothbrush, soap and shampoo.  Bring snacks if you like but we will provide them as well.  Bring your own medications.  Bring sun screen, bathing suits and be ready for a great time.    Leave behind the electronics and computers and please don't bring any food with gluten.

What is the menu?

Of course, all the food will be gluten free and if you have other dietary requirements (like allergies or lactose intolerance) we will accomodate those as well.  Parents who cook gluten free every day are creating the camp menu and will supervise the kitchen.
